Social media can be a tool to strengthen customer service and to give consumers an outlet to complain about a company. According to Convergys Corp, one bad tweet or one negative comment on Facebook can lose a company up to 30 customers.?

Remember the 2009 YouTube video sensation entitled ?United Breaks Guitars?? The musician, whose guitar allegedly was damaged by United Airlines baggage handlers, created three videos chronicling his experience.? The video amassed over 10 million views by February 2011. The Times newspaper reported that within 4 days of the video being posted online United Airline?s stock price fell 10% costing shareholders $180 million in value. While the experience launched a music career, United Airline?s?financial loss and public humiliation moved them to improve their customer service policy.

AT&T, one of the world?s leading communications service providers, launched a powerful presence on Facebook that currently engages over 1.4 million?fans.??Assigning a team of more than 20 of its top performing customer service managers exclusively to social media, AT&T reduced customer?response time to 15 minutes. An AT&T survey indicated their customer service was actually exceeding people?s expectations.

Social media has had an impact on customer service ? at least for those businesses who have the the mindset to use this tool as another way to improve quality customer service. BBB offers some advice or points to consider before a frustrated or angry consumer hits the ?send? button on a blog or customer review:

Social Media makes complaining ?easy? and can potentially be false or misleading. It takes ?sleuthing? to determine if comments posted, whether favorable or damaging, are truly filed by a customer with a genuine experience with that business.? Are those postings paid for by an employer, a disgruntled employee or a competitor?? Copy the postings, post in Google and see if the comments are found elsewhere ? a yellow flag they may be staged.

?Don?t lose your sense of fairness.?Using the adage from the playground, blogs and reviews can be unfair when the other side of the story is not heard or given an opportunity to respond.? Consumers may use reviews that do not permit the business an opportunity to respond to the posting. Therefore, a company may not be able to modify or improve their services because they simply were uninformed. Their customer service may not have received the opportunity to respond because the customer chose social media as an outlet rather than going directly to the business.

BBB | Greater Maryland?s opinion is these social resources can be positive, helpful and a quick tool for research, but customers should not solely rely upon social media posts as the only tool to make their pre-purchase decisions.? BBB Reviews are designed to provide factual information about a business, including details such as licensing, government action and other industry specific information.? When a business does not voluntarily provide such information to be posted for their potential customers, that failure is noted in the Review.?

BBB believes customer complaints should be given an opportunity to be addressed by the business and for both parties to work toward resolution within the privacy of their own exchanges, with only the results and general nature of the dispute to be published.? BBB has been concerned that consumers would no longer turn to dispute resolution services but rather just settle for a blog or a post and move on.? But social media has had no effect on the number of complaints reported to BBB and consumers who use these dispute resolution services are seeking more than just venting ? they are seeking resolution that may put money back in their pockets, cancel a contract, or get the job finished.? Social media doesn?t always give the opportunity for those results ? unless you post a creative and successful YouTube video? ? and not everyone can do just that!

Bubble Hotel Offers High-Style Camping In France (VIDEO)

A new bubble hotel outside of Paris offers stressed-out city dwellers -- as well as intrepid tourists -- a night of luxury under the stars in a plastic bubble that's essentially a high-style tent.

The bubble rooms allow guests "to see the Milky Way through the roof of your room," creator Pierre-Stephane Dumas tells Reuters, adding that stargazing is one of the prime reasons Parisians escape to the glam, forest campground.

A night in this bubble goes for ?189 ($258), a bit more dear than a night in a standard tent.

Other bubble hotels in France have similar rooms, including Attrap' R?ves -- the name means "Dreamcatcher" -- where a selection of bubbles start at ?129 a night. Sky River, a few hours outside Paris, also has a bubble hotel room for rent, with an all-inclusive package from ?209 a night.

NYT: Flying to Europe, for a little less

The good news: Travelers who waited out the summer hoping for lower fares to Europe this fall will find some relief, as flights to Europe are cheaper now than at the beginning of the summer. The bad news: Prices are still higher than they were a year ago.

Despite the European debt crisis, fares to Europe remain ?stubbornly high,? said George Hobica, founder of AirfareWatchdog.com. ?We suspect it?s due to consolidation, capacity cuts and plain old demand.?

Fares from New York to Madrid, for example, are as low as $762 round trip versus $1,197 at the beginning of the summer, according to Bing Travel, the Microsoft search engine. But that?s still about $50 more than a year ago, when the same route was $709. Similar patterns can be seen in round-trip fares between New York and Paris. Holiday tickets are up too, with an average price of $936 versus $861 last year, according to Bing?s Holiday Travel forecast.

How do you keep the price of your ticket in check? Below, some tricks to finding the best fares this fall and beyond.??

Use a jump city
Forget your final destination for a moment and focus on the cheapest flight you can find to Europe, which may involve spending a night in a city not in your original travel plan. Bing?s flexible flight search lets you compare up to five routes at once for the best price within a 30-day range. (Conduct your search as usual. Then, under the Flights tab, click ?flexible search,? then ?select a city? under Destinations to look for major European hubs like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Paris.) After finding a flight, search for a European budget carrier like easyJet or Ryanair to fly to the city you had originally planned to visit. ?Historically, the cheapest jump cities have been Dublin, Zurich, Frankfurt and Madrid,? said Rick Seaney, the chief executive of Farecompare.com.

For example, the least expensive nonstop flight for a weeklong trip to Paris from New York in mid-November was about $840, according to a recent search. Flying round trip to Dublin instead and using Ryanair to get to Paris and back saves about $232 ? which can more than cover a cheap B&B for the two nights you may need to spend in Dublin to make this itinerary work.

If you don?t have a long layover as a buffer, you run a greater risk of missing connecting flights if there are delays by dealing with multiple airlines on separate tickets. And don?t expect the second airline to take responsibility if you do miss your flight. Still, the savings can outweigh the risk. Trains, which are often more convenient in Europe than planes, can be another way to get to your destination from a jump city. Momondo.com, a Danish travel search site, compares air routes with more than 4,000 train routes across Europe. Depending on the schedule, you may not have to spend money on a hotel.

Be flexible
You can often save by adjusting your travel dates by a day or two. ITASoftware.com, which provides the technological backbone for many airfare shopping sites, allows users to scan an entire month?s fares for the least expensive rate. (Click on ?airfare search,? then ?see calendar of lowest fares.?) Monday, Nov. 5, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, were the cheapest dates that month to fly nonstop to London from Atlanta ($884 round trip) for a week?s vacation, according to a recent search. The next best was Thursday, Dec. 1, or Saturday, Dec. 3, at $900. To book, users must go to another site. Bing Travel offers a handy flight summary after each search that suggests cheaper options in a pop-up box. For instance, the cheapest rate for a New York-to-Rome flight departing on Friday, Oct. 21, was $900 round trip. If you left a day later, you could save $50, according to the flight summary box.

Look beyond nonstop flights
Choosing a flight with a connection or stopover may not be as fast as taking a nonstop route, but the savings may outweigh the inconvenience. The cheapest nonstop flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam for a week in late November was $1,011 on Delta, according to a search on Hipmunk.com, which sorts fares according to an ?agony? index that factors in price, length of flight and number of connections. By taking a connecting flight that stops in London for about three hours, you could shave $100 off the price. Also, don?t overlook alternative airports. The cheapest nonstop flight from Newark to London?s Heathrow airport for a week in late September was $778 on Virgin Atlantic, in a recent search. Flying into London?s Gatwick airport instead on Iceland Express with a short stop in Reykjavik was about $130 less.

Find package deals
Buying your flight and hotel together at an online agency like Expedia or Travelocity can be cheaper than booking separately. A four-night trip for two people in mid-October to London from Newark, staying at the Radisson Edwardian Mercer Street Hotel, was $1,885 a person if the hotel and flight were purchased together at Expedia.com versus $3,629 if booked separately. A weeklong trip to Dublin from New York, staying six nights at the Hilton, was $934 a person if booked together at Travelocity.com, $249 less than if booked separately.

Take a closer look at code shares
With code sharing, the industry term for an agreement that allows airlines to sell one another?s flights as if they were their own, you could book a flight to Paris on Delta and end up traveling with Air France, a code share partner with Delta. But while the flight might be the same, the price might not be. Sometimes the difference can be substantial. For example, a recent online search revealed that a nonstop flight in October from New York to Rome operated by American Airlines was $1,612 if booked through British Airways (American?s code-share partner). That same round-trip flight was $1,412 if booked through American.

You can spot a code share when comparing fares online; if you see the same route and departure times from two different airlines, it is most likely a code share. To be sure, you can check the flight details, which spell out which carrier operates the flight.

Search for upper class sales
Several major airlines have been running business-class sales to Europe over the holidays, when business travel can dry up, with prices as low as $1,320 round trip (before taxes and fees) from New York to Brussels, $1,470 from Boston to Frankfurt and $1,648 round trip from Chicago to London on Lufthansa and other carriers. But unlike in previous years, said Joe Brancatelli, publisher of the travel Web site JoeSentMe.com, who alerts members to such sales, few airlines are promoting the deals on their Web sites, forcing travelers to ?peck and hunt? for the sales online.

Travelzoo.com, which offers a list of Best Europe Flight Deals, recently pointed out premium-economy round-trip fares from $1,162 (not including taxes and fees, which can add up to $250) on Air France from New York to London, and $1,857 (not including taxes and fees) from Los Angeles to London on Air New Zealand. But act quickly if you want one of those cushy seats. Mr. Brancatelli said one of his subscribers booked a ticket to Glasgow for Thanksgiving for $1,200 round trip, but by the time he told his friends about the deal, the price had gone back up to $5,000.

Letter Of Credit ? Factoring Offer Financing Solutions For Trade ...

The letter of credit ? factoring options are two different kinds of trade financing alternatives available to businesses. The former relies on a bank. The latter relies on a financing party that is not a bank. Of the two, the latter is easier to obtain during difficult economic times than the former.

Suppliers typically use this instrument for both foreign and domestic trade. This is a document banks provide to guarantee that sellers will be paid. If the party which secures the facility from a bank fails to pay, the bank then pays the sum owed. This may be the full payment or only that part left unpaid by the buyer.

This device is a form of protection for both buyers and sellers. Such protection allows suppliers to receive what is owed in exchange for which buyers gain possession of goods. This device is offered in varying structural arrangements. Irrevocable and revocable devices are well known. Qualifying, standby and transferable devices are amongst other alternative forms.

In the revocable formulation, the issuer is allowed to alter, adjust or terminate. Suppliers do not like it because they then have a greater risk. When it is irrevocable, it does not allow modifications, amendments, or cancellations without prior agreement. As this is a form of disbursement guarantee, suppliers have a preference for this type.

There is a guarantee of compensation, if there is a standby. But, on its own it is not a form of payment. In the transferable form, both irrevocable and revocable types are optional. When there is an option to transfer, transference of the benefit can be made to another party.

Qualifying for this form of liquidity is not a matter of course. It requires the business owner to take one of two options. One would require the deposit of the full amount in cash with the issuing bank or financial institution. The alternative would require obtaining a line of credit from the bank for use as collateral. This requires the business qualify for bank financing; but it is the preferred alternative as it does not tie up cash. For this reason, the more appealing method is the line of credit option.

As this method is not easy to obtain, factoring is a popular alternative. The factoring market share has been on the rise in the United States. By 2000, domestically factoring had financed over 87 billion USD as indicated by the Commercial Finance Association. This means the method has become the single largest way credit sales are financed.

In this mechanism is the optimal path for businesses that cannot rely on credit lines. For the funding, a funding company furnishes suppliers with their security with the purchase order serving as the collateral. A commission is taken by the factor for this service. The commission is a portion of the invoiced value. This is essentially a purchase of the receivables. In each transaction, three parties participate. While banks consider the risk of lending to the borrower, the factor values the receivables. No cumbersome application is required. There is an absence of conditions and no need for a lasting commitment. In the process, cash flows get evened out. Businesses not paid for months benefit as they receive most of the amount due in advance. The factor determines whether the customers are creditworthy. Funding may be provided in one day. Letter of credit factoring assist trade by removing or lowering the transactional risks involved.

Deciding on God's side

A Christian Science perspective.

?Better one safe way than a hundred on which you cannot reckon.? So ends one of Aesop?s fables comparing the survival instincts of a fox and a cat. The moral is that too much consideration of our options can be unproductive, even dangerous.

With today?s constant barrage of information from media outlets and online news feeds, the struggle to choose and decide wisely is on the increase. There?s even a name for it: analysis paralysis. Simply put, when people and businesses overthink a situation (like the fox in that fable), things run the risk of becoming needlessly complicated. Productivity and forward motion can grind to a halt. Instead of at some point starting to do something with the information, resources, time, at hand, they may spin their wheels, and in the process forfeit potential gains and opportunities.

?With too much information, people?s decisions make less and less sense,? says Prof. Angelika Dimoka, a neuroscientist at Temple University in Philadelphia. Newsweek tells how she and her colleagues have studied brain activity in the attempt to explain what?s going on. There is even a branch of study known as ?survival psychology,? which examines what makes some people able to steer clear of paralyzing indecision during emergencies and crises.

It?s good that people are making efforts to identify what?s limiting as well as helping our sound decisions, and that some have devoted their careers to finding paths forward. But we maintain that the only sure means of determining that ?one safe way? of progress involves reliance on God?s direction ? input from the one infinite intelligence, which is always more enlightened than even the best of human choices. Seeking the answers in the structure of the brain or patterns of human behavior will never ultimately set us free. We need to get beyond ourselves.

This is one of the Bible?s major messages; it chronicles many ways in which humanity has been pressing toward the singlemindedness of thought and purpose that stems from knowing, honoring, hearing, one supreme and loving God. From the depiction in Genesis 11 of the city of Babel, scattered because its people became confused, to the enlightening day of Pentecost, when the early Christians ?were all with one accord in one place? (Acts 2:1), we can see an unstoppable progression of human thought toward realizing our potential for productivity and safety. Whether you are looking for guidance to complete a project, jump-start a flagging career or company, break free of bewilderment, or pray in fresh ways for physical healing, the Scriptures teach lessons in yielding to the healing power of God?s wisdom, available to all.

Based on the Bible, Christian Science explains that God has established supreme laws of good, and that prayer to understand and follow them constitutes the highest Science. Cultivating the understanding of what Jesus taught is adequate to steer each individual clear of paralyzing confusion, fear, danger, misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and the host of other pitfalls we might encounter as we try to make the best choices for the family or the workplace.

?Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation,? Jesus warned: ?The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak? (Matt. 26:41). Even ? especially ? in the hours of doubt and struggle, Jesus turned away from the scene before his eyes and toward God, the divine Mind, for reliable guidance and inspiration. His perception was clear and confident and certain, and in his presence people found freedom and healing. The spiritual understanding that supported Jesus? ministry on earth is available to us today in the healing Science of Mind that Mary Baker Eddy discovered. It operates exclusively in the precincts of thought, bringing us under Mind?s guiding and saving intelligence. While this inspiration expresses itself in human actions that are practical and beneficial and appropriate to the need of the moment, its source is spiritual, unconfined by circumstance. This is why it is consistently reliable. ?Trust in the Lord with all thine heart,? says Proverbs, ?and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths? (3:5, 6).

So often the hindrance to accomplishing our greatest good results from preoccupying material thoughts, which lead to burdensome rumination and evaluation. That?s why it?s so important to pray by shutting down these thoughts, which aren?t from God, seeking instead the clarity that is His alone. ?Mind is the source of all movement,? Mrs. Eddy wrote, ?and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action? (?Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,? p. 283). Our individual efforts to be informed by this infallible divine Mind reveal the one safe way in all circumstances. Prayer can unblock paths in this very hour and bring us forward together.

Jeff Goode said.But that progress is in jeopardy.?Out of the blue, the IEP Director called and said, ?The state says we've got to cut people down and your daughter doesn't qualify because she's category A, so we can't have her,?? Goode said.After being in class for four days a week last year and two days a week this year, Lisa is now only eligible for one hour of instruction each week.Roughly 20 families got similar news in the Los Lunas district this week. The school district said it all goes back to a July letter from the state, which clarifies who should qualify for special education service if they suffer from a speech disorder.The public education department sent Action 7 News a statement that said, ?We plan to work very closely with the school district on this matter. Second, if the philanthropists decide to reduce their philanthropy because of the additional taxes due, charities would have less revenues and would need to contract their charitable missions. Not good.

Over the years, the Internal Revenue Code has been amended and amended again. These amendments have severely reduced or eliminated the availability of most itemized deductions for the ?wealthy.?

Under current law, exclusive of charitable contributions and home mortgage interest, most ?wealthy? taxpayers do not receive significant tax reduction from their itemized deductions in calculating their federal income taxes.

Because of the alternative minimum tax, ?wealthy? taxpayers are already limited in their ability to benefit from their tax deductions for state income and property taxes.

?Wealthy? taxpayers also rarely receive any benefit from medical expenses, casualty losses or miscellaneous deductions because of limitations that have been in the Internal Revenue Code for decades.

This leaves only the home mortgage interest deduction and the charitable contribution deduction to be impacted by the president?s proposal to limit the benefits of itemized deductions.

The home mortgage deduction is currently limited to the interest on a $1 million mortgage. With interest rates at 5% or so, the maximum tax increase related to home interest for any individual taxpayer from the proposed limitation on itemized deductions would approximate only $3500.

Therefore, the expected increase of $40 billion dollars a year in federal revenues for the next decade must be funded from ?wealthy? individuals losing a portion of their itemized tax deduction resulting from their charitable contributions.

Consequently, we get to this unusual social result. If a ?wealthy? philanthropist donates $1 million dollars to the Red Cross in 2012 and then does so again in 2013, his or her taxes would increase by $70,000 in 2013 over 2012.

If the ?wealthy? next-door neighbor, Scrooge, made no charitable donations in 2012 and continued that pattern in 2013, Scrooge?s taxes would not increase in 2013. Now there is a piece of public policy - let?s raise taxes only on the good guys!

Most 'wealthy' individuals donate to charity only after determining how much they can afford in after-tax dollars. One has to think that the practical result here is that many, if not most, ?wealthy? taxpayers would reduce their contributions to achieve the same after-tax cost of their charity.

So, by raising the taxes on the ?wealthy? philanthropist, the proposed bill would very likely punish the poor by reducing the funds received by the local food bank etc. as large charitable donations decline. It is odd public policy, in troubled times, to propose a jobs bill that would hurt charities and therefore the poor.

The president needs to pull this idea off the table. As a society, we need to encourage charitable deductions rather than, in reality, putting into place a new federal tax surcharge on charity. We need to honor ?wealthy? donors and protect the poor, not the opposite.

SEC says it likely tossed some info on big banks (AP)

WASHINGTON ? The Securities and Exchange Commission has acknowledged that some documents from preliminary investigations of major banks and convicted swindler Bernard Madoff likely were destroyed under a former agency policy.

The SEC's enforcement chief made the disclosure in a letter Wednesday to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. Grassley had asked about allegations by an SEC attorney that the agency illegally destroyed records related to thousands of preliminary probes, including investigations of Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Madoff.

Enforcement Director Robert Khuzami said the agency doesn't believe any current or future investigations were harmed by the policy, which allowed documents to be discarded in cases that were closed when staffers decided a formal probe wasn't warranted. A review by the SEC inspector general is under way to determine if any law was violated.

Khuzami said in the letter that the SEC has kept "significant information" related to all the "matters under inquiry," even under the former records policy.

"We believe the electronic ... information that we retain allows staff to `connect the dots' between current and closed matters," Khuzami wrote to Grassley. The electronic information is searchable and allows SEC enforcement staff to identify potential relationships between individuals or entities, and between current and past inquiries, he said.

The information in documents that were discarded still may be available from sources inside or outside the SEC, Khuzami said. The agency's current policy, adopted last year, requires all documents to be retained whether they are part of a preliminary probe that is closed or a formal investigation, Khuzami said. The current policy and practices meet the SEC's legal obligations, he said.

The agency's reputation has been battered by its failure to detect the massive Madoff fraud over nearly two decades and by other lapses.

Grassley, a longtime critic of the SEC, has expressed concern that the records destruction may have hurt the agency's ability to pursue cases.

Commenting on Khuzami's letter, he said Wednesday that "the SEC's argument seems to rely on its claim that nothing significant was destroyed. But since the documents are gone, we'll never know how important they might have been."

U.S. government records must by law be preserved whether they are part of a formal investigation or a preliminary inquiry, Grassley said in a statement.

Netherlands Claims Greece Will Go Bankrupt | Greek Reporter Europe

According to the Dutch news program RTL Nieuws, the Ministry of Finance announced that Greece is not in the position to avoid bankruptcy.

The Dutch government noted that bankruptcy is a matter of time and the question is not the exact date but how this bankruptcy will be faced with less consequences.

Finance Minister Jan Kees de Jager noted that all scenarios are possible but did not go in further details.

Dutch banks are not going to be exposed much because they have lent a small amount of money to Greece in comparison to those given from France or Germany.

The possibility to adopt once more the singe currency of drachmas, is an issue that could be decided only by the Greeks, added the news program. Furthermore, former Greek? currency could turn out more expensive because paying off in a foreign currency could potentially be more harmful to the economy.
